Insulation
Adding insulation delivers the greatest return on investment for most Canadian homes, and a properly insulated attic will save you money and make your home more comfortable all year long.
Adding insulation delivers the greatest return on investment for most Canadian homes. As energy prices rise, it means deeper applications of attic insulation make more economic sense. So how much is enough? Start by aiming for a minimum of R50 as an end goal. In March of 2012, the Ontario Building Code increased the minimum allowable R-value in attics to R50. Many older homes actually carry an R-value of R18 or less! Poorly insulated attics can lead to a loss of up to 30% of your heating and cooling costs. Your heating and cooling dollars are escaping through your attic!
A properly insulated attic will save you money and make your home more comfortable in both winter and summer. Increasing your attic insulation can also prevent ice dams and reduce the risk of mold developing due to excessive condensation.
The installation of blown-in fiberglass insulation in your attic can be completed through an inside attic access or through the roof. We always prefer to enter the attic through the roof. Whenever possible we will top up your attic insulation on the same day as your roof is being replaced.
